What we will cover:
This course is geared for community birth workers and Out-of-Hospital birth. Any type of provider is welcome to attend regardless of the location that they practice. It will satisfy the requirements for AAP’s Neonatal Resuscitation Instructor-Led Event in order to obtain NRP certification. We will cover the following topics:
  • Understanding pathophysiology and the changes from intrauterine to extrauterine
  • Anticipating and preparing for a resuscitation
  • Review of NRP equipment: how to use and OOH modifications
  • Review the steps of NRP
  • Debriefing
  • Post-resuscitation care
  • Transporting
  • Communication with other health professionals
It will be your responsibility to complete the online portion of this training before the course. When you register, you will receive information and links to help you buy the NRP book, register for the online portion, and know everything necessary to complete this training. Only after you've taken the online AND in-person portions and completed the post-course survey will you be certified in NRP.

What to expect at the in-person training:
  • We will begin at 9am and end at 3pm. I have found that this allows for ample time for skill scenario practice and questions and answers. Participant involvement directly correlates to the effectiveness of skills practice and scenarios.
  • We will have an hour for lunch.
  • If you would like to practice skills with your own equipment, feel free to bring it along with you.
  • Debriefing happens naturally throughout the course, providing participants with ample opportunities to share and learn from one another.
