You have choices.

There are many families who want to give birth with a midwife outside of the hospital but who would rather not give birth in their own home. For these folks, a birth suite might be the perfect answer. Our suite is a complete one bedroom apartment, and it's all yours for the duration of your labor, birth, and the first 24 hours after your baby is born. Make yourselves at home! There's a full kitchen for your use; a living room and dining room to spend time with your family or just your partner; and a nice bathroom with a big, new tub for your labor and birth. Check out our photos and then reach out to schedule a tour. We'd love to show you around!

Midwife Lucky Tomaszek, LM, CPM, discusses the birth suite, community birth, and why this work is so important to her.

How does it work?

For the most part, planning to give birth in our birth suite is much the same as planning a homebirth with a licensed midwife. You'll still follow the same prenatal and postpartum care schedule, and your midwife will still attend you from active labor through your first few hours postpartum. Your midwife will have all of the same herbs, medications, equipment and instruments that she'd bring to a homebirth. The biggest difference is that instead of staying home for your entire labor and birth, you'll come to the birth suite when you're in active labor. You'll remain at the suite until your baby is approximately 24 hours old when your midwife will do your first postpartum visit. Then you'll be discharged to go home with your newest family member. The rest of your postpartum follow-up care will proceed as if you'd had a homebirth.

What about the cost?

The birth suite is available on a self-determined fee scale of $1200 to $2000, based on your ability to pay as determined by you. The fee to use the birth suite is separate from the fee you pay your midwife. You'll also sign a separate agreement to use the birth suite which will outline all of the check-in and discharge procedures so there are no surprises in labor!

I accept payment by HSA/FSA, as well as payment plans, cash, check, and payment apps.

Unfortunately, BadgerCare will not cover the fee for the birth suite. If your family utilizes BadgerCare for insurance, your midwife is still covered but the birth suite will be an out-of-pocket fee for you. We offer a reduced fee for BadgerCare families.

But, but, but - homebirth?

Yes! I am still attending homebirths with my clients. I know that for many people, there's no place like home when it's time to have a baby. However, my goal is (and has always been) to make community birth accessible for as many families as possible. That means having a safe and comfortable location available for folks who aren't able or would rather not give birth in their homes.
